Nigerian officials are optimistic about securing a flawless score during the upcoming 2026 Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) validation. Musa Sarkin Adar, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), stated that the nation is fully prepared for the upcoming assessment.
Speaking at an event in Abuja attended by media and civil society representatives, Adar emphasized that the current administration under President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to upholding EITI standards. To ensure success, NEITI has been collaborating with major agencies, including the NNPC Ltd, NUPRC, NMDPRA, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, and the PTDF, to finalize necessary corrective measures.
Adar stressed the importance of these efforts, noting that high levels of compliance are essential to attract foreign investment in the mining and petroleum industries. He also encouraged active participation from the media and civil society, as their feedback plays a significant role in the validation process. Dr. Erisa Danladi, a representative of the civil society on the NEITI board, remarked that this process is vital for identifying progress and improving governance within the resource sector.
