Niger State Liquor Board Targets Fraudsters Issuing Counterfeit Receipts

The Niger State Liquor Licensing Board is investigating a ring of fraudsters issuing fake receipts and spreading false allegations against the agency to disrupt new accountability reforms.

The Niger State Liquor Licensing Board has issued a warning regarding the distribution of fraudulent payment receipts, asserting that malicious actors are attempting to sabotage its operations. Mohammed Hamisu Kogunan, the Executive Director of Operations and Enforcement, addressed reporters in Minna to clarify that certain individuals are providing fake documents to vendors while falsely accusing the agency of misappropriating state funds.

Kogunan rejected online claims suggesting the board neglected to remit government revenue. He characterized these reports as calculated efforts by those frustrated by recent efforts to increase accountability. To prevent financial losses, the board now requires all liquor vendors to process payments exclusively through official government accounts. Kogunan emphasized that this policy has closed loopholes previously exploited by corrupt individuals.

The agency is currently tracking the perpetrators behind the fake receipt scheme and plans to pursue legal action against them. Despite these challenges, Kogunan expressed confidence in the ongoing collaboration between the board and local vendors, dismissing the rumors as unsuccessful attempts to manufacture discord.
