Nepalese man claims Nigerian police facilitated massive N1.6 billion travel fraud

A Nepalese national claims that officers at Nigeria’s Police Force headquarters helped facilitate a N1.6 billion travel scam orchestrated by a Cameroonian businessman.

A Nepalese individual named Bista has alleged that police officers stationed at the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja assisted in a fraudulent travel operation resulting in a N1.6 billion loss. In a discussion with activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, Bista explained that he and other foreign nationals were lured by the promise of relocating from Nigeria to Suriname for commercial ventures.

The scheme was allegedly led by Emmanuel Masa, a Cameroonian living in Nigeria, who claimed to have established partnerships with Azman Airlines to provide travel documents and chartered flights. Bista arrived in Abuja from Gambia in 2023 alongside six associates. He stated that his trust in the plan grew significantly after he attended a meeting at the Force Headquarters where police officers reportedly endorsed Masa and guaranteed the legitimacy of the travel arrangement.

Following these assurances, Bista paid an initial $20,000 for his trip. When the travel plans did not move forward, Masa cited a shortage of passengers and pressured the victims to recruit additional people to keep the operation running.
