The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) detained Will Jessica Ann, a 38-year-old South African citizen, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Authorities accuse her of hiding 5.75 kilogrammes of heroin while traveling with her toddler on July 6, 2026. Arriving on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha, the woman initially claimed she had no luggage. Officials eventually linked her to two bags containing 14 blocks of heroin. She later confessed to owning the suitcases, claiming a lapse in memory regarding her check-in process. Investigators believe she is linked to a transnational trafficking network involving her husband, Jan Coenraad De Jager.
In separate operations, the NDLEA intercepted Onyechere Daniel Chinadufor at Lagos airport with 1.715 kilogrammes of methamphetamine, both in his backpack and through internal concealment. The suspect, a long-time commercial motorcyclist, admitted he was recruited by an associate based in Uganda. Furthermore, at the Apapa Seaport, the agency partnered with the Nigeria Customs Service to seize a container from Canada holding over 4,000 kilogrammes of a potent cannabis strain, valued at more than ₦10.3 billion. Additional seizures included skunk hidden in a gas compressor meant for export to Cyprus. NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), praised these achievements while encouraging his team to continue balancing enforcement with drug abuse awareness programs.
