Muhammad Inuwa Abdullahi, a final-year Information Technology student at the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), has created a self-operating robot capable of identifying and extinguishing indoor fires. Hailing from Pantami, Gombe State, Abdullahi built the device as his senior project using an Arduino Uno microcontroller.
The robot functions by scanning for flames, moving independently to the fire’s origin, and deploying a water pump to halt the blaze. Abdullahi designed the machine to provide immediate intervention, aiming to preserve lives and infrastructure before fires intensify. He believes the technology has practical applications for schools, hospitals, offices, and residential areas.
This innovation highlights the role of university research in addressing public safety concerns. NAUB, founded during the leadership of Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, seeks to integrate academic research with national development and security needs. Abdullahi’s work serves as a potential foundation for more advanced emergency response systems that utilize artificial intelligence and Internet of Things connectivity. His achievement emphasizes the growing capacity of Nigerian students to create localized, technology-driven solutions for everyday problems.
