Nasarawa State Mandates Lideal Mines to Vacate Site Following Regulatory and Security Breaches

The Nasarawa State government has mandated Lideal Mines Company to halt operations and evacuate its site in the Udege Development Area, citing security concerns and contractual failures.

Authorities in Nasarawa State have ordered Lideal Mines Company to cease operations in the Endo Community, Udege Development Area.

Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Margaret Elayo, announced that the decision stems from unresolved security issues and the firm’s persistent disregard for local agreements.

Although the company previously challenged government sanctions in court, the Federal High Court in Lafia ultimately ruled in favor of the state.

This legal backing allows for the immediate removal of all personnel, vehicles, and mining machinery from the Endo site.

Commissioner Elayo confirmed that security forces are being sent to the area to monitor the evacuation and prevent any illegal activities.

This shutdown is part of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s broader initiative to regulate the mining industry, ensuring that companies provide economic advantages to local communities rather than just extracting resources.

The administration emphasized that while it welcomes ethical investors, strict adherence to state policies is mandatory.

Mining firms are encouraged to maintain lawful operations to avoid similar repercussions as the state continues its efforts to professionalize the extractive sector.
