NAPTIP Announces Seven-Year Prison Sentences for Two Human Traffickers

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has confirmed that the Supreme Court upheld the conviction of Titilayo Folorunso for human trafficking and organized prostitution.

On May 8, 2026, the apex court unanimously supported previous rulings from lower courts, confirming a seven-year sentence for each count against the defendant.

Authorities discovered that Folorunso had lured a victim with the false promise of a teaching position in Malta. Instead, the victim was taken through the Niger Republic to Libya, where she suffered forced prostitution, physical abuse, and coerced abortions.

The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, noting it lacked merit and reiterating Nigeria’s dedication to eradicating human trafficking.

In a separate ruling, the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced Bose Jimoh on May 7, 2026. She received a seven-year prison term and a fine of N4 million for facilitating foreign travel to support prostitution and trafficking victims for exploitation.

Both cases were prosecuted under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act of 2015.
