The newly elected Chairman of the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents (NAJUC), Olakunle Olubunmi Olasanmi, has challenged his colleagues to maintain high standards of objectivity and accuracy when covering court cases. Given the sensitivity of the legal system and the approaching 2027 elections, Olasanmi stressed that precise reporting is essential to combat the spread of misinformation and the intentional distortion of judicial rulings by external actors.
Speaking in Abuja following the transition of power from former chairman Kayode Lawal of Daily Post, Olasanmi outlined his administration’s plan to partner with security agencies and judicial stakeholders. The goal is to remove unaccredited individuals and those responsible for spreading false information within the court reporting beat. An eight-member executive committee has been sworn in to lead these efforts.
To support his vision, Olasanmi established a three-man standing committee consisting of Joseph Kadiri, Sunday Benjamin Ejike, and Garry Ochigbo. The new leadership also intends to revisit proposed constitutional amendments during the next congressional meeting to ensure the association’s rules remain relevant. He acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor, Mr. Lawal, who guided the association through the challenges of the post-pandemic era, including organizing six national conferences in collaboration with the National Judicial Institute.
Elder Andrew Orolua, head of the Electoral Committee, praised the peaceful nature of the transition and encouraged members to fulfill their financial obligations to the association. The new executive team includes Vice Chairman Emmanuella Ekele, General Secretary Alexander Enumah, Assistant Secretary Godfrey Eshiemoghe, Treasurer Wandoo Sombo, Financial Secretary Austin Okezie, Welfare Officer Oluwafemi Kuku, and Provost Garry Ochigbo.
