The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has launched a countrywide operation to pull alcoholic beverages sold in sachets and PET bottles smaller than 200ml from the market. This initiative directly enforces the federal government mandate prohibiting the manufacturing, importing, selling, and distributing of these specific alcohol formats.
Operating across all six geopolitical zones, the agency is targeting retail shops, motor parks, markets, and bars to confiscate the restricted goods. This action follows the earlier shutdown of factories that refused to adhere to the government directive, which was established to safeguard public health.
NAFDAC has issued a formal notice to all stakeholders—including manufacturers and retailers—urging them to turn in any remaining inventory of these banned items immediately. Holding or selling such products is now considered a legal offense, which may lead to heavy fines, legal prosecution, or product seizure.
The primary goal behind this policy is to curb excessive alcohol consumption and substance abuse, specifically among the youth and underage population. The agency is calling on the public to assist by refusing to purchase these items and by reporting any ongoing illegal sales to local NAFDAC offices or via their official hotline.
