Youth Development Minister Ayodele Olawande has corrected recent media claims, stating that the government has not decided to replace the traditional NYSC khaki uniform with Adire. Clarification was issued following his appearance on Channels Television, where reports incorrectly suggested a formal policy change.
Olawande explained that his comments were merely examples of various suggestions gathered during discussions on improving the National Youth Service Corps. The minister emphasized that no final selection has been made regarding fabric or design. Authorities are currently reviewing several factors for any potential new uniform, including durability, cost, national branding, and the support of domestic textile manufacturers.
The minister urged the public to focus on the core goals of the NYSC reforms rather than fixating on attire. These wider improvements seek to bolster youth entrepreneurship, increase graduate employability, and refine the program’s overall effectiveness in fostering national unity and career success.
