US First Lady Melania Trump is threatening to sue Hunter Biden for $1 billion after he falsely claimed she was introduced to President Donald Trump by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Through her attorney Alejandro Brito, Melania demanded Biden retract his “false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory” statements. The remarks, Brito said, were made to draw attention to himself and have caused “overwhelming financial and reputational harm” to the First Lady.
Biden repeated the allegation originally made by Fire and Fury author Michael Wolff during a Daily Beast podcast during an August 5 appearance on Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan. Wolff’s claims, which suggested Epstein and Trump were connected through a “model agent” who introduced Melania, have since been retracted by the Daily Beast, which issued an apology.
In his televised comments, Biden asserted Trump and Epstein “knew each other well” and claimed, “according to his biographer, Jeffrey Epstein introduced Melania.” Brito’s letter, dated August 6 and obtained by Fox News, gave Biden until August 7 to retract the statements and issue a public apology “in as conspicuous a manner as they were originally published.”
The letter warned that if Biden failed to comply, Melania would pursue legal action seeking over $1 billion in damages. As of Wednesday night, the Channel 5 episode remained available on YouTube and had been widely shared online, further amplifying the claims.
East Wing spokesperson Nick Clemens said Melania’s legal team is “actively ensuring immediate retractions and apologies by those who spread malicious, defamatory falsehoods,” noting that the true story of how she met President Trump is detailed in her memoir, Melania.
