Mary Habila’s Family Appeals to IGP for Release of Daughter’s Remains

Tanko Habila is urging the Inspector General of Police to return the body of his late daughter, Mary Habila, so the family can hold a funeral after the Ebonyi State Police Command held the remains for two weeks.

Tanko Habila has officially requested the Inspector General of Police to intervene and order the release of his late daughter’s body for funeral rites. Miss Mary Habila, a nurse, passed away while at the home of the Minister of Works.

On Friday, Mr. Habila visited the Force Headquarters in Abuja alongside his wife, legal counsel, and other relatives to submit the formal petition. During a media briefing following the submission, the family voiced their deep frustration regarding the Ebonyi State Police Command’s decision to withhold the remains for nearly two weeks.

The grieving father explicitly stated that the family has no desire for an autopsy to be performed. He emphasized that their only priority is to reclaim their daughter’s body so they can proceed with a proper burial, noting that they view her death as a tragic, accidental occurrence.
