Manchester United Fan Launches GoFundMe Campaign to Fund Carlos Baleba Transfer
In a bold and humorous show of support for Manchester United’s transfer ambitions, a dedicated fan has launched a GoFundMe campaign aimed at helping the club sign Carlos Baleba, Brighton & Hove Albion’s rising midfield star.
The 21-year-old Cameroonian international caught attention last season, making 34 Premier League appearances and scoring three goals under Brighton’s new manager, Fabian Hürzeler. According to The Athletic, Manchester United have reached out to Brighton through intermediaries to explore the terms of a potential transfer. Baleba still has three years remaining on his current contract, with an additional one-year option at Brighton’s disposal.
However, signing Baleba presents financial complications. United are currently managing their spending carefully to remain compliant with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The club has already made significant investments this summer, acquiring Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for £71 million, Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5 million, and are close to finalizing a deal for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško. These moves have pushed United’s summer expenditure close to £200 million, ranking as the third highest in the league behind Liverpool and Chelsea.
Amid these constraints, an England-based United fan named Ian M. decided to contribute in his own way. On Wednesday evening, he created a GoFundMe page titled “Baleba to Man United Fund”, featuring an image of Baleba in his Brighton kit and a simple message: “We need this to happen.”
Ian set an ambitious fundraising target of £120 million—a clearly tongue-in-cheek sum, reflecting the high cost of modern transfers. As of now, the campaign has yet to attract any donations. The page urges early contributions with the prompt:
“Give £20 and be one of the first to donate — your donation is the start of Ian’s journey to success. Your early support inspires others to donate.”
While the effort may not influence Manchester United’s transfer strategy, it stands as a humorous and heartfelt example of fan dedication in the era of high-stakes football business.
