Manchester United have pinpointed the site for their proposed 100,000-seat stadium, situated roughly 350 meters northwest of Old Trafford. The club recently purchased a 25-acre plot, currently home to a go-kart track, to facilitate the project.
Draft masterplans for the broader Trafford Wharfside regeneration initiative were presented on Thursday. While the current renders do not feature the distinct ‘circus tent’ canopy previously suggested by minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in March 2025, club officials maintain that the design remains under consideration. These preliminary sketches serve as a broad framework rather than a final blueprint, and specific architectural details are reserved for future discussions.
Collette Roche, the chief executive overseeing stadium development, stated that designs will be reviewed over the coming weeks, with updates expected by the end of the year or early next year. She declined to provide an official completion date, emphasizing a commitment to getting the project correct over rushing the timeline. Additionally, the club has yet to determine the future of the current Old Trafford venue. The wider 150-hectare development project aims to generate 48,000 jobs and provide 15,000 new homes for the local community.
