Manchester City has declined a £55 million offer from Barcelona for midfielder Rodri. The Spanish club remains determined to acquire the World Cup winner despite this second refusal, having previously seen a £40 million proposal turned down. Reports suggest City is holding out for a fee exceeding £60 million.
Although Rodri is currently in the final year of his contract, Manchester City is eager to secure a renewal rather than part ways with the Spain international. While the club intends to retain him, they have indicated they would not block a transfer if the player explicitly requests to leave.
A significant valuation gap exists between the two sides. City is seeking a guaranteed payment between €70 million and €80 million, whereas Barcelona’s offer is limited to approximately €65 million due to La Liga’s financial regulations. Much of Barcelona’s proposal relies on conditional variables rather than upfront cash.
With the potential departure of two central midfielders this summer, Manchester City is actively scouting alternatives, including Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez and Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi.
