A Gombe State High Court has handed down a death sentence to 25-year-old Hassan Mohammed for the murder of his former spouse, Halimatu Sadiya-Adamu.
Justice Abdulhamid Mohammed-Yakubu delivered the verdict on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, finding Mohammed guilty of culpable homicide.
The court heard that on March 25, 2025, in Falangaya village, the defendant attacked the victim with a knife after she declined his proposal to reunite in marriage.
The prosecution, led by Abubakar Kungudo, established that Mohammed fatally slit Sadiya-Adamu’s throat during the encounter. To prove the case, the state presented six eyewitnesses and tendered the murder weapon as a primary exhibit.
Although Mohammed maintained his innocence throughout the trial, the judge ruled that the evidence—including witness testimonies and police investigation findings—proved his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Consequently, under Section 221 of the Penal Code Law, which mandates the death penalty for intentional killing, the court ordered that Hassan Mohammed be executed by hanging.
