A 102-year-old man has died following an alleged assault at a public house in Cwmbran. Phillip Ormerod, a local resident of Torfaen, was transported to a medical facility in critical condition after the incident occurred at The Crow’s Nest on 1 August. Gwent Police confirmed his passing on Thursday.
Authorities arrested a 56-year-old man from Llanelli on suspicion of assault, and he remains the subject of an ongoing investigation. Emergency teams arrived at the venue around 22:25 BST after receiving reports regarding the altercation.
Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Shelley Comley emphasized the sensitivity of the situation. She requested that the public refrain from sharing speculative or inaccurate commentary online, noting the active nature of the criminal inquiry and the grief currently experienced by the victim’s family. Gwent Police are appealing for any witnesses who were present at the premises between 22:00 and 23:00 to come forward with information.
