The Los Angeles Lakers franchise is changing hands in a landmark transaction valued at $12.5 billion, or approximately £9.3 billion. This development arrives less than one year after Mark Walter acquired a majority position in the team.
The controlling interest is being purchased by Josh Kushner and former Disney CEO Bob Iger. Walter had previously secured his stake from the Buss family for an estimated $10 billion, a move that received unanimous backing from the NBA Board of Governors in October 2025.
In a joint statement, Kushner and Iger expressed their honor in becoming stewards of the organization. They emphasized their long-term dedication to maintaining the team’s competitive excellence and serving both the fans and the city of Los Angeles, while acknowledging the foundational work established by Jerry and Jeanie Buss.
