Legislative Support Pledged for Femicide Prevention Bill

Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe has promised to champion a new legislative bill designed to prevent femicide following discussions with advocates from the DOHS Cares Foundation.

Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, who chairs the House Committee on Humanitarian Services, has committed to backing new legislation aimed at curbing femicide in Nigeria. The assurance followed a strategic assembly at the National Assembly involving representatives from the DOHS Cares Foundation and the Gender Technical Unit (GTU).

During the session, Akande-Sadipe praised the groups for their reliance on empirical data to highlight gender-based violence. She further agreed to collaborate with her legal staff to refine the draft proposal, ensuring it adheres to parliamentary requirements before it is formally introduced for debate.

Mrs. Ololade Ajayi, founder of DOHS, noted that the discussion was prompted by insights from the 2025 femicide report. She expressed appreciation for the lawmaker’s support, viewing it as a vital advancement toward the recognition and prosecution of gender-related crimes. Moving forward, the foundation plans to continue coordinating with Akande-Sadipe and relevant government ministries to finalize the bill.
