Leading Cardinal Says New Pope Must Stand Up To The ‘Gay Lobby’
A prominent conservative figure in the Catholic Church, German Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller, has warned against the influence of “ideological lobbies”—including what he termed the “gay lobby”—as the Church prepares to elect a new Pope.
A vocal critic of the late Pope Francis, Cardinal Müller called for a return to traditional Catholic values and urged that the next pontiff be doctrinally firm and resistant to growing liberal influences.
In an interview with Italy’s La Stampa newspaper, Müller emphasized that the new Pope must possess “solid theological and doctrinal grounding” and remain steadfast in confronting what he described as the rising dangers of “heresy” and “gender ideology.”
‘Doctrine is not the property of the Pope, the bishops, or the faithful,’ he declared. ‘It must conform to the word of Jesus. No one can modify it. If Jesus says marriage is between a man and a woman, no one can change that doctrine.’
The outspoken cardinal also condemned efforts to equate marriage with same-sex unions, stating that such views “completely contradict the teachings of the Bible.”
His remarks come as cardinals from across the globe convene behind closed doors in Rome to determine the start date for the critical papal conclave, which has now been scheduled for May 7.
The gathering follows just days after the funeral of Pope Francis, who passed away last week at the age of 88 after suffering a stroke and heart failure.
