Lagos State Authorities Assist Pregnant Woman, Transfer Mother and Child to Plateau Government

Lagos State officials successfully rescued an unconscious pregnant woman, provided medical stabilization, and facilitated her safe delivery before reuniting her and her newborn with the Plateau State government.

A 22-year-old woman named Tingni Kindness was saved after being found unconscious on a street in the Allen area of Lagos on June 6. Through the Lagos State emergency healthcare intervention programme, she received critical care and later gave birth to a healthy baby girl at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), explained that the LASHMA-AID team coordinated the rescue after a distress call. This intervention falls under an executive order by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which ensures life-saving care for vulnerable individuals regardless of their ability to pay.

The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, noted that Kindness was stabilized upon arrival and remained under medical supervision until she delivered her child on June 21. Following the successful recovery, Lagos State officials transferred the mother and infant to the Plateau State Government for ongoing support and rehabilitation.

Mrs. Philomena Yakubu, representing the Plateau State government, expressed gratitude for the prompt medical response that saved both lives. Kindness, who previously lacked shelter and financial resources, thanked the hospital and government staff for their efforts. Since its inception in March 2026, the LASHMA-AID initiative has successfully provided emergency stabilization for 34 individuals.
