The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed that electricity has been returned to various districts in Lagos shortly after a widespread disruption. TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah confirmed in a Thursday update that the Benin-Egbin 330kV transmission line is operational again.
The power failure began at 8:19 am on June 25, 2026, due to voltage instability within the national grid. This technical issue triggered a cascade effect across the Lagos region, causing several power stations to go offline and cutting off supply. The situation was brought under control following rapid interventions led by Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe alongside various industry stakeholders.
While the Benin-Egbin line is currently transporting bulk electricity, technical crews from the Benin and Omotoso subregions are actively repairing the remaining faults on the 330kV Benin-Omotoso line. TCN noted that these efforts are essential to fully restoring supply for customers serviced by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company and the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company. The agency has requested public patience while full restoration efforts continue.
