The Lagos State Police Command has officially detained a man suspected of sexually assaulting and murdering a local Point of Sale (POS) operator. The woman’s remains were found in a canal situated in the Sangotedo-Ajah region.
SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command’s spokesperson, stated that officers arrived at the scene on July 14, 2026, after receiving reports of the crime. Local security personnel had already restrained the suspect before police arrived to take him into custody. The victim was allegedly attacked and killed before the suspect attempted to hide her body in a canal near the Mopo area of Ajah.
Authorities have transported the woman’s body to the General Hospital Mortuary in Yaba for a formal autopsy. The investigation is now being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department at Yaba. Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has mandated a comprehensive investigation and promised that the perpetrator will face the full weight of the law.
