Labour Party Reschedules Primary Elections to Avoid Conflicts with Sallah and Democracy Day

The Labour Party has moved its 2027 primary elections to May 30 to prevent scheduling clashes with the Sallah celebration and Democracy Day.

The Labour Party has officially moved its primary elections for the 2027 presidential, gubernatorial, and legislative seats to May 30. National Publicity Secretary Ken Asogwa announced the update on Thursday from Abuja.

Previously, the party intended to hold governorship and state assembly primaries on May 27, with the presidential and National Assembly contests set for May 29. However, the leadership opted to consolidate these activities onto a single day to prevent scheduling conflicts.

Asogwa explained that the adjustment was essential to respect the Sallah festivities and the national observance of Democracy Day on May 29.

He noted that as a responsive political organization, the Labour Party wanted to ensure that members, candidates, and the general public could participate in both the holidays and the electoral process without interference. The party issued an apology for any disruptions this change might cause to stakeholders.
