Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq welcomed a new Nigerian Army battalion on Tuesday at the 22 Armoured Brigade Sobi Barracks in Ilorin. These forces are part of a larger deployment of five battalions tasked with enhancing security across the state, with troops currently moving into Omu Aran in the Irepodun Local Government Area. A separate detachment has already arrived in Pategi to establish a new operational base.
During the arrival ceremony, Governor AbdulRazaq praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his rapid response to the state’s security needs. Major General Yakubu Yahaya, GOC of the 9 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Savannah Shield, and Brigadier General Nicholas Rume, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, were also in attendance to oversee the troop deployment.
The Governor expressed his gratitude for the swift mobilization, noting that the federal government acted much faster than initially anticipated. He further highlighted the importance of President Tinubu’s recent decision to improve salary structures and welfare packages for soldiers, stating that these changes will significantly increase the morale of the military personnel serving in the region.
