Emergency responders in Kwara State successfully prevented a potential disaster on Thursday in Olori town, situated along the new Jebba highway. At roughly 09:08 hours, a petroleum tanker carrying 45,000 litres of fuel from Lagos to Abuja experienced a mechanical failure.
The driver of the vehicle, identified by registration OYO 45 AA, pulled over after hearing an unusual noise. As he attempted to continue his route after an initial inspection, the fuel tank suddenly separated from the truck cabin. Because the area is densely populated with shops and homes, the spilled fuel posed an immediate threat of a major fire.
Firefighters arrived quickly and saturated the area and the tanker with water to eliminate the risk of ignition. They remained on-site until the fuel was safely transferred to a different vehicle. Alabi Muhammed, the Chief Fire Officer, praised the team for their rapid and professional response. He also cautioned drivers to perform rigorous vehicle checks before long trips and urged the public to stay clear of fuel spills to avoid accidental ignition.
