Bayo Fabiyi, a high-ranking member of the Oodua Peoples Congress in Kwara State, was seized by armed criminals while attempting to drop off a ransom payment. The incident took place in Oko-Irese, located in the Irepodun Local Government Area, as Fabiyi sought the release of a previously kidnapped person.
The captors had stipulated a payment of N30 million, alongside three bags of rice and five motorcycles. Fabiyi and two associates were intercepted while delivering these goods on Monday. Zubair Olaitan, the coordinator for the Kwara South Joint Security network, verified the event on Tuesday. While acknowledging the efforts of security personnel near the Kwara-Kogi border, Olaitan emphasized the need for improved logistics to combat these gangs.
Reports indicate that a female spiritual advisor had explicitly warned Fabiyi against the journey, claiming she envisioned his capture. Despite this caution, he proceeded with the operation. While group members remain optimistic about his eventual release, Kwara State Police Commissioner Ojo Adekimi stated he has received no formal report regarding this kidnapping.
