Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) vice presidential candidate, has called on his followers and those aligned with the Kwankwasiyya and Obidient movements to maintain composure while the party plans its next steps. The former New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential hopeful issued this appeal during an interview shared on the social media platform X this past Wednesday.
This development follows a ruling by Justice Isa H. Dashen at the Lokoja Judicial Division, which effectively vacated a previous December 10, 2025, decision that had compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC. The court determined the prior order infringed upon the legal rights of the Peace Movement Party, an entity that claimed ownership of the logo used by the NDC but was absent from the original proceedings.
INEC National Commissioner Mohammed Kudu Haruna noted on Saturday that the commission is currently awaiting formal documentation before determining its official course of action. Kwankwaso voiced his frustration regarding the judicial reversal, questioning why the court would favor a claim from an organization he characterizes as non-existent. He maintained that the NDC logo is visually distinct from that of the APC and argued that INEC had previously acknowledged the party’s legitimacy by participating in its congresses and conventions over the past six months.
Emphasizing the party’s commitment to legal processes, Kwankwaso announced plans to return to court this coming Monday to challenge the decision and seek a stay of execution. He concluded his statement by urging the youth and supporters nationwide to remain patient, expressing confidence that a favorable legal resolution will ultimately be achieved.
