Kellie Bright is departing EastEnders after a 13-year run

Kellie Bright, known for her iconic role as Linda Carter, is leaving EastEnders after 13 years to focus on family and new projects.

After portraying the central character Linda Carter for over a decade, actress Kellie Bright is set to depart from the long-running soap EastEnders. Bright first appeared on Albert Square in 2013 alongside her on-screen husband Mick, played by Danny Dyer, when the pair took over the Queen Vic pub.

Over her 13-year tenure, the character of Linda Carter became central to significant narratives involving themes of trauma, family conflict, and recovery. Notable storylines included the aftermath of her character’s sexual assault by Dean Wicks in 2014, the loss of her husband in the sea in 2022, and her role in the 2023 Christmas Day plotline involving the death of Keanu Taylor. These dramatic events often drew millions of viewers.

Bright shared that she made the decision to leave over a year ago but agreed to remain for a final, impactful storyline. While her departure date remains in the future, the BBC has promised high-stakes drama to mark her exit. Executive producer Ben Wadey praised Bright as an essential figure for the series, calling her an iconic part of the show’s history.

Regarding her future, Bright noted that she is eager to focus on her family, including her husband and three sons, while exploring new professional opportunities. Before her long-standing role on the soap, Bright appeared in films such as Ali G Indahouse and Kinky Boots, and she also competed on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015.
