The Kano State Police Command has taken a 28-year-old man into custody for allegedly transporting ammunition and tactical gear to criminal gangs active in the region. CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command spokesperson, confirmed the arrest occurred on Tuesday following a tip-off from a local resident.
Officers from the Bichi Division, supported by local community members, intercepted the individual, identified as Mohammed Isah Haruna from Dala Local Government Area, in Rimaye Village. Haruna was reportedly dressed in military attire at the time of his capture.
During a search of the suspect’s belongings, police seized an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, an additional 79 rounds of ammunition, multiple sets of military uniforms and headgear, a fraudulent military ID, and desert boots. During questioning, the suspect admitted he was attempting to transport these supplies to bandits hiding in the forest.
State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the residents of Rimawa for their role in the operation, noting that the success highlights the effectiveness of community-led security efforts. The police command confirmed that the suspect remains in detention as they work to track down his accomplices, with plans to charge him in court once the investigation concludes.
