The Kano State Government has officially closed a cinema situated in the Dorayi, Unguwa Bello district, citing breaches of urban planning laws and its inappropriate location within a residential neighborhood. This enforcement action was executed during the Operation Show Your Document initiative, spearheaded by Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, the Director General of the Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS).
Sani, who heads the committee focused on unauthorized buildings, stated that the intervention was prompted by grievances voiced by local inhabitants and religious figures. He noted that initial inspections revealed the establishment lacked the necessary permits. Furthermore, Sani emphasized that even with proper documentation, the facility would remain unauthorized because the site is designated for residential use. He argued that operating a film house in this area contradicts zoning regulations.
Beyond regulatory compliance, the government highlighted concerns regarding the potential negative social influence the venue might have on the local youth population. Sani reiterated that the administration is committed to enforcing legal standards and warned that those disregarding the law would face official consequences. He encouraged the public to continue reporting concerns, reaffirming the government’s pledge to prioritize the well-being of Kano’s citizens through strict adherence to state policies.
