Edo security forces neutralize one kidnapper and rescue three students following campus tragedy

A joint security operation in Edo State has resulted in the neutralization of a suspect and the rescue of three Ambrose Alli University students following a fatal attack on a peer.

A joint task force consisting of Edo State Police, the Nigerian Army, the Edo State Security Corps, and local hunters has eliminated one kidnapper and apprehended another involved in the killing of Peter Ekpen Adolor, a 24-year-old anatomy student at Ambrose Alli University. The operation also successfully secured the release of three female students kidnapped during the same incident.

The events began on July 12, 2026, when armed individuals attacked an off-campus hostel in Ekpoma. Adolor was fatally shot after investigating a disturbance outside his residence. Following his death, the assailants abducted three other students: Favour Okoroje, Balogun Precious, and Praise Obagbalu.

ASP Eno Ikoedem, spokesperson for the Edo State Police, confirmed that authorities tracked the gang to their hideout in Erah Forest on July 14. During a subsequent gunfight, the superior tactical pressure from the security coalition forced the suspects to retreat. The three rescued students were promptly taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.

In addition to the arrests and neutralization, security forces seized three AK-47 rifles, dozens of live rounds, and various personal items belonging to the captives. Edo State Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika praised the professionalism of the participating units while expressing condolences to the family of the deceased and the academic community.

Operations continue as authorities hunt for the remaining members of the criminal group.
