Social media commentator Justice Chidiebere, widely recognized by his online handle ‘Justice Crack’, has shared his first public statement since regaining his freedom from state custody.
Writing on his verified X account on Friday, Chidiebere thanked the Nigerian citizens, journalists, and rights advocates who lobbied for his release. He extended appreciation even to his critics, noting that democratic societies require space for differing viewpoints.
The activist was initially reported missing in late April 2026 after dropping his child off at school in Abuja. Following public pressure, the Nigerian Army admitted on May 2 that he was held for releasing content that highlighted poor welfare conditions among front-line soldiers. Military officials labeled his actions as subversive. He was later moved to the Department of State Services and arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges of cybercrime and inciting public unrest.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted Chidiebere bail set at 5 million naira on May 18, 2026. In his recent address, Chidiebere denied any intention to undermine national security or state institutions. He reaffirmed his respect for military personnel while maintaining his commitment to advocating for better governance. He pledged to respect ongoing court proceedings and refrain from commentary that could influence his legal case.
As his trial moves forward, Chidiebere emphasized that he remains focused on promoting a more equitable nation. He argued that the country’s progress depends on accountability and dialogue, concluding his message with the motto: ‘Justice can’t be cracked.’ His trial is set to resume on May 25, 2026.
