Jigawa Governor Launches 2026 Wet Season Support for 90,000 Farmers

Jigawa State has launched its 2026 agricultural support scheme, providing subsidised fertiliser to 90,000 farmers and solar pumps to improve irrigation productivity.

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State recently inaugurated the 2026 Wet Season Agricultural Support Programme at Dutse Township Stadium. The initiative aims to alleviate burdens on farmers, specifically targeting high production costs, limited access to irrigation, and the scarcity of quality agricultural inputs.

The governor detailed a plan to provide subsidised fertiliser to 90,000 farmers this season. While 50,000 recipients will receive direct support from the state, 40,000 others will be assisted through a collaborative effort between the Bank of Agriculture and StarAgri. To further assist with irrigation and energy expenses, the government is distributing 6,000 solar-powered water pumps.

Extension services are also receiving a boost, with 1,185 motorcycles allocated to workers to help them reach rural farmers more efficiently. Governor Namadi stated that these efforts are part of a broader goal to make Jigawa a premier agricultural centre by focusing on mechanisation and climate-smart practices. Dr. Saifullahi Umar, Director General of the Jigawa Agricultural Transformation Agency, encouraged farmers to use these resources effectively and maintain financial obligations to ensure the program’s longevity. Alhaji Maiunguwa Jaga, head of the local chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, praised the government for this well-timed intervention.
