JAMB Issues Warning Against Unofficial Admissions as NUC Targets Over-Enrollment

JAMB has warned candidates that bypassing the official CAPS portal for admission is illegal, while the NUC prepares to enforce stricter monitoring of university enrollment quotas and AI usage.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned students against accepting admissions offered outside its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). Officials stated that any enrollment secured through these unofficial channels is illegal, meaning students risk losing their status and being omitted from official records. Candidates are urged to print their formal JAMB admission letters to verify their legal standing.

During the 2026 Annual Education Summit held in Abuja, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede emphasized that universities are strictly forbidden from exceeding their approved student quotas. Any student admitted beyond a program’s designated capacity will not be recognized by the Board. Candidates bear the responsibility of ensuring their admission process follows the correct digital procedure to avoid becoming stranded.

Meanwhile, the National Universities Commission (NUC) is implementing stricter oversight to curb over-admission. Represented by Malam Lawal Faruk, the commission announced that it will conduct post-matriculation inspections to verify that schools adhere to their authorized limits. Furthermore, the NUC is rolling out a new national policy to govern the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence in academic research and teaching.

To support student transitions into the workforce, the NUC is promoting micro-credentials and entrepreneurship training. They are also collaborating with universities to automate the transcript request process, ensuring graduates face fewer delays while maintaining institutional autonomy regarding academic certification.
