Boko Haram has published a video tribute for Abu Salim al-Barnawi, an operative within their media division who died during a military engagement with Nigerian forces in Borno State. Captain Mohammed Goni, the acting media officer for Operation HADIN KAI, released the footage on Wednesday.
Reports from the previous week indicated that Nigerian troops neutralized numerous fighters, including the group’s cameraman, during a fierce battle in the Lake Chad Basin. Captain Goni confirmed that Al-Barnawi was killed while the insurgent group attempted to raid a military facility. Before his transition to the media department, Al-Barnawi was known for leading incursions into Cameroon.
The commemorative video, lasting just over three minutes, depicts the deceased fighter showcasing his recording equipment at various locations prior to his death.
