A high-ranking Islamic State West Africa Province commander known as Abu Hassan was killed while attempting an assault on Cross Kauwa in Borno State. This update was reported on Sunday via X by security expert Zagazola Makama, relying on information from intelligence channels.
Abu Hassan, a Qaid who commanded forces in the Tumbunma region, perished while directing the strike against the town. A foreign combatant of suspected Arab descent also lost his life in the same battle. Furthermore, another ISWAP leader, Aliyi Zabarmari, sustained a significant leg injury during the retreat from the Tumbunma enclave. A second Arab fighter is currently unaccounted for following the botched offensive.
Security observers view these losses as a significant blow to the militant organization, as the casualties included vital field leaders responsible for orchestrating violence throughout the Lake Chad basin.
