The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally charged the Federal Government with permitting state institutions, specifically the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Police Force, to engage in partisan activities as the 2027 elections approach. Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, voiced strong disapproval on Thursday regarding reports that a specific faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), associated with MC Oluomo, might handle election logistics for INEC.
Furthermore, the party questioned the presence of Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, at an event promoting the pro-Tinubu City Boy Movement. According to Abdullahi, these events signal a troubling erosion of the divide between the current administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He argued that when security leaders act as advocates for the ruling party, it threatens the integrity of the state.
The ADC warned that employing the NURTW faction for logistics would severely damage public trust in the electoral system. Highlighting the necessity for impartiality, the party urged INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, to clarify the nature of any ties to that union faction. Similarly, they requested that the Inspector-General of Police address whether Commissioner Fatai’s attendance at the political event was sanctioned.
To test this demand for equity, the ADC announced it will invite police leadership to its upcoming events. The party stated that if the police wish to attend political gatherings, they must extend that same participation to opposition activities, or face accountability for any unauthorized political alignment.
