The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that the window for voter registration will not be reopened following its conclusion on July 26, 2026. Wilfred Ifogah, speaking as the commission’s spokesperson during an appearance on Channels Television, stated that no further adjustments to the schedule are possible.
Ifogah explained that the commission requires a minimum of 75 days to finalize the voter register ahead of the upcoming election. He noted that the body is already facing significant pressure to meet its operational deadlines. The registration process has been an extensive project spanning approximately 340 days, beginning with online pre-registration in August 2025 and moving to physical registration shortly after.
While INEC previously granted a two-week extension following public requests, the commission has deemed any further delays unfeasible. The registration process included upgrades to the portal to facilitate online self-service. According to Ifogah, the commission is moving into the next phase in August, which involves displaying the register for public scrutiny and verification.
