Imo Lawmaker Calls for Functional Fire Station Following Okigwe Market Blaze

Imo legislator Samuel Chidiebere Ogbunikpa is calling on Governor Hope Uzodinma to upgrade fire service infrastructure following a destructive blaze at Eke Okigwe Market.

Samuel Chidiebere Ogbunikpa, the Imo State House of Assembly representative for Okigwe Constituency, has requested that Governor Hope Uzodinma ensure the state fire service is adequately prepared for emergencies. This demand follows a significant fire at Eke Okigwe Market that caused extensive destruction of property.

During a session of the House, Ogbunikpa emphasized the severe impact of the blaze, noting that many merchants remain in distress due to their losses. He urged the government to implement preventative measures immediately. Several other lawmakers supported the motion, calling for official assistance for the impacted traders.

Ogbunikpa specifically asked the Governor to provide essential resources, including fire trucks and a reliable water supply, while advocating for the establishment of fully operational fire stations. He further highlighted the need to renovate the existing, dilapidated Okigwe fire facility to meet modern standards. Finally, he requested that the administration provide financial compensation to those whose livelihoods were ruined by the disaster.
