Herve Renard resigns as Tunisia manager following World Cup exit

Herve Renard has stepped down as Tunisia’s coach after a short two-match stint resulted in group-stage elimination at the 2026 World Cup.

Herve Renard has officially resigned as the head coach of Tunisia following the national team’s early elimination from the World Cup. The 57-year-old French manager shared the news on Instagram, stating his brief tenure with the Eagles of Carthage had concluded. He expressed his gratitude to the Tunisian Football Federation for the opportunity to participate in the 2026 tournament.

Renard replaced Sabri Lamouchi on June 16, shortly after Lamouchi was dismissed following a heavy 5-1 defeat against Sweden. Despite Renard’s previous success leading Zambia and Ivory Coast to Africa Cup of Nations titles, he struggled to improve Tunisia’s performance. Under his leadership, the squad suffered a 4-0 loss to Japan and a 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands.

Before joining Tunisia, Renard had been slated to lead Saudi Arabia at the World Cup, but he was removed from that position less than two months before the competition began. He clarified to AFP that his commitment to Tunisia was specifically centered on the World Cup, leaving his future intentions undisclosed.
