Heather Knight Retires from International Cricket

Former England captain Heather Knight concludes her 16-year international cricket career following the Test match against India at Lord’s.

Heather Knight, the 35-year-old former England captain, has confirmed her retirement from international cricket. She will conclude her career following the ongoing Test match against India at Lord’s, marking the end of a tenure that also sees batter Tammy Beaumont depart from the national squad.

Knight exits the game having set a record for England women with 320 international appearances. Her career is highlighted by the 2017 World Cup victory at Lord’s, a campaign she led after taking over the captaincy from Charlotte Edwards the previous year. Over a nine-year leadership period that ended after the 2025 Ashes series, she captained the side in 199 matches.

Reflecting on her 16-year career, which began in 2010, Knight expressed gratitude for the experiences and relationships formed in the dressing room. She stated she feels content with the timing of her departure. Beyond her leadership, Knight was a key middle-order performer, appearing in 15 Tests, 160 ODIs, and 145 T20 internationals. In 2020, she achieved the milestone of becoming the first England player to score centuries in all three international formats.

Clare Connor, the managing director of England women, praised Knight for her exceptional leadership and dedication. While transitioning away from playing, Knight has already secured a role as the general manager for her franchise team, London Spirit.
