Data released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) indicates that Nigeria’s oil production slipped by four percent in July 2026, reaching 1.67 million barrels per day (mbpd) compared to 1.74mbpd in June.
Despite this dip, Nigeria has managed to keep production above its OPEC threshold of 1.5mbpd for three months in a row. The July total comprised 1.505mbpd of crude oil alongside 0.17mbpd of condensate. During that month, daily output fluctuated, hitting a high of 1.78mbpd and a low of 1.57mbpd.
Looking at the broader trend for the year, production reached 1.70mbpd in May and 1.663mbpd in April, following earlier figures of 1.546mbpd in March, 1.483mbpd in February, and 1.627mbpd in January.
The NUPRC pointed to specific operational difficulties at the Akpo and Erha fields as the primary drivers for the July decrease. While these disruptions negatively impacted total volumes, activity at other fields remained steady as operators worked to preserve efficiency and mitigate the effects of the setbacks.
