Gunmen Strike Again in Rivers, Leaving Two Dead
Gunmen believed to be cultists have killed two individuals at Odiokwu Junction in Ula-Ehuda, Igbu Akoh Kingdom, within Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
This incident took place on Monday, October 21, 2024, less than 24 hours after five people were shot dead in Edeoha Community, also located in Ahoada East LGA.
Hector Chinem, the Public Relations Officer of Igbu-Akoh Kingdom, confirmed the event to reporters, stating that residents noticed individuals dressed in coveralls and military attire on Sunday evening, only to awaken the next morning to find the bodies of two young men shot multiple times.
Chinem urged the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Mustapha, to urgently enhance security in the area, as remnants of cult groups have infiltrated the communities.
“Early this morning, we woke up only to see two able-bodied youths gunned down and we don’t know the people. As I speak to you, it has been about 24 hours since five persons were killed in Edeoha Community in Upata kingdom,” he said.
“We saw a group of youths with blue coveralls and Army raincoats. We don’t know if it was the same people who invaded the other community on Sunday.
“You can see that between yesterday (Sunday) and today (Monday), we have lost almost seven lives. We thought this insecurity was not more but with this now.
“We are using this medium to call on our youths to lay down their arms because nobody is fighting with anybody. And we call on the newly posted Commissioner of Police to swing into action to stop this menace.”
It was reported that the families of the deceased have taken the bodies for burial.
