Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has relieved Mrs. Sonia Ebanehita Omonzane of her duties as Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). In her place, the governor has selected Hon. Ayewoh Ambrose Oyakhilome to lead the agency.
This transition marks the fourth time the governor has replaced the head of the SUBEB. Previous changes in the board’s leadership include the removal of Barrister Onomen Goodness Briggs in May 2025, who was transitioned to the Board for Technical and Vocational Education, and the earlier reassignment of Dr. Paddy Iyamu to the role of Commissioner for Education.
According to an official announcement from the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Umar Musa Ikhilor, the appointment of Oyakhilome is effective immediately. Prior to this new role, Oyakhilome served as the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Rural Access Roads Agency, where he oversaw rural infrastructure projects.
Governor Okpebholo praised Oyakhilome as a committed administrator dedicated to improving educational standards and outcomes within the state. The nominee’s name has been submitted to the Edo State House of Assembly for the formal confirmation process.
