Governor Lawal Rules Out Peace Pacts with Zamfara Terrorists

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has declared that his government will not negotiate with bandits, emphasizing a commitment to military force over peace deals.

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has firmly stated that his administration will not negotiate with terrorist groups. During an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, he emphasized that the state government holds more power than the criminals currently threatening local communities.

The governor declared that initiating peace deals with bandits is prohibited in the state. He clarified that his government remains strictly opposed to such measures, opting instead for a strategy focused on military force and law enforcement. He noted that recent truce efforts reported in certain areas were unauthorized activities carried out by individuals acting on their own behalf.

Lawal dismissed the effectiveness of past negotiations, arguing that such attempts have consistently failed and only served to encourage further criminal activity. He remains committed to a policy that rejects compromise with those responsible for violence, including kidnappings and killings across Zamfara.
