Nigerian authorities have called for an emergency meeting with aviation stakeholders on April 22, 2026, aiming to stop upcoming airfare increases and potential airline service closures.

These measures follow a sharp rise in the cost of aviation fuel, JetA1, which surged from N900 to over N3000 per liter.

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, formally addressed airline operators in a letter dated April 16, 2026. He acknowledged the industry’s warning to halt operations or raise prices due to the 300 percent fuel price hike.

Keyamo expressed that the federal government is prioritizing these concerns to ensure the industry does not collapse. The upcoming Abuja meeting will involve regulatory authorities and key industry players to find a viable, immediate solution to the crisis.
