On August 7, 2026, Goldberg Lager introduced a large-scale talking drum installation atop the historic Cocoa House in Ibadan. This project merges a significant cultural symbol of the Yoruba people with one of the most recognizable structures in Nigeria.
Completed in 1965, the 26-story Cocoa House was funded by the regional cocoa trade and stood as the first skyscraper in West Africa. By placing the talking drum on this landmark, Goldberg aims to honor the spirit of local enterprise and the values of Omolúàbí, which emphasize character, respect, and community responsibility.
The installation is programmed to sound every hour, blending the rhythm of Omolúàbí with the time of day. Abdulrahman Yinusa, CEO of Odu’a Investment, remarked that the drum serves as a vibrant reminder that Yoruba culture remains a living, active force rather than a mere memory. He noted that the drum communicates proverbs, emotions, and communal unity.
Sarah Agha, Marketing Director for Nigerian Breweries Plc, highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader commitment to celebrating cultural heritage. The unveiling event attracted notable figures, including actors Kunle Remi and Odunlade Adekola, as well as various cultural and government representatives. The installation is intended to serve as a lasting landmark, connecting the historical significance of Ibadan with the contemporary influence of Nigerian culture on the global stage.
