Girlguiding has introduced its most significant uniform overhaul since 1990, prioritizing individual expression and personal comfort. The updated collection, which comprises 30 garments and 15 accessories, replaces the previous style to offer members more versatility.
Chief executive Felicity Oswald noted that the redesign focuses on sustainability, comfort, and practicality. The move follows feedback from thousands of members—including Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers—who requested more styling options. To simplify requirements, the organization now mandates only a single top from the new collection to constitute a proper uniform.
Key additions include functional features like thumb holes, concealed waistband pockets, and badge sashes that function as cross-body bags. Prices begin at £12 for a basic T-shirt. While the range is modern, it retains elements of the charity’s historical identity.
A June survey of 2,000 UK members aged six to 16 revealed that 93% prefer choosing their own style. Ambassador Angellica Bell praised the update for encouraging individuality among volunteers and girls. The organization confirmed that existing uniforms remain valid, allowing members to transition to the new collection only when a replacement is needed.
