FUOYE VC Urges New Students To Build Lives On Integrity And Resilience During Matriculation
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Fasina, has charged newly admitted students to lay a firm foundation for their future through deliberate actions, sound values, and responsible choices.
The advice was contained in a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Foluso Ogunmodede, and made available on Monday.
Fasina delivered the message during the matriculation ceremony for 11,327 fresh students across the Oye Ekiti and Ikole Ekiti campuses, stressing that long-term success depends on a solid moral and intellectual base.
He identified honesty, integrity, curiosity, a love for learning, and resilience as essential virtues students must cultivate, noting that challenges are inevitable but can be overcome with determination.
“No one can escape challenges, but through resilience you can overcome and go places in life,” he said.
Speaking under the theme Building a House on the Solid Rock, the Vice-Chancellor reminded students that character determines destiny.
“A house built on a solid rock will stand firm, while one built on loose ground will collapse. Let integrity guide your actions and choices,” Fasina urged.
He described matriculation as a binding commitment between students and the institution, encouraging them to actively participate in campus life beyond lectures and examinations.
“The university is more than classrooms and tests. Volunteer, serve, explore different endeavours, and grow wiser every day,” he advised.
Congratulating the students on securing admission, Fasina called on them to uphold the university’s reputation, highlighting the progress FUOYE has recorded under his leadership.
“The journey has been smooth to the glory of God. I have learned much and placed my trust in Him,” he added.
The students formally took the matriculation oath, marking their official entry into the university and their acceptance of its rules and responsibilities.
The event was attended by senior university officials, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Tajudeen Opoola, Registrar Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim, Bursar Dr. Adebolanle Debo-Ajagunna, University Librarian Dr. Olabode Olajide, deans, staff, parents, and other guests.
